Tjalkens: Environmental exposure to heavy metals such as manganese is associated with neurological dysfunction in humans, particularly in children. To understand the basis for these effects, we are examining mechanisms of manganese neurotoxicity and neuroinflammatory injury in the developing mouse brain and in primary cultured glial cells.
